and the old ''King's Majesty's Corporation" became<br />
de facto ''Lords <strong>of</strong> the Manor <strong>of</strong> Liverpool" and <strong>of</strong><br />
all the sources <strong>of</strong> <strong>it</strong>s manorial revenue, including the<br />
remaining mill. In 1657 they made a " Rentally <strong>of</strong><br />
burgage rents lately purchased from the trustees, Port Mote,<br />
in <strong>it</strong> the^^^'^5i-<br />
according to Act <strong>of</strong> Parliament"; including<br />
entry, " Edward Moore, esq.,<br />
for the Townes end<br />
Milne and the horse milne, and certain parcels <strong>of</strong><br />
land," but <strong>of</strong> course making no allusion to the extinct<br />
mill at Eastham.<br />
In 1654, and the year following, the corporation,<br />
as lords <strong>of</strong> the manor, entertained the idea <strong>of</strong> rebuilding<br />
Eastham Mill :—<br />
1654. Dec. 19.— It is ordered by the Assembly that the present Ibid., iii. 605.<br />
mayor and bailiffs shall bargain and issue out monies for the<br />
rebuilding <strong>of</strong> Eastam Milne, and shall take course to preserve the<br />
materials that are left and make sale <strong>of</strong> such as will not serve : again<br />
And shall cause Mrs. Bixsteth to deliver to them the old millstones<br />
which Mr. John Williamson borrowed and took from thence.<br />
iii. 610.<br />
1655. Aug. 22.— It is again ordered that Mr. Mayor and the Ibid.,<br />
bailiffs shall treat w<strong>it</strong>h Richard Whytehead or any other about the<br />
setting up <strong>of</strong> Eastam Milne : and shall have power to contract and<br />
agree w<strong>it</strong>h him or any other for a certain barn and rent for the best<br />
advantage <strong>of</strong> the : Corporation and to reserve the ancient rent <strong>of</strong><br />
twenty shillings per annum burgage : and make what more they can<br />
well agree for.<br />
1655. Nov. 20.— Ordered, that Mrs. Bixsteth shall restore a Ibid.,<br />
milnstone which was taken from Eastham Milne or give satisfaction<br />
to the bailiffs for <strong>it</strong>.*<br />
The corporation, however, never restored the mill.<br />

late Williamson's, and more for her barn"; and in the rental for 1668 are 871.<br />
*'Mrs. Bixsteth for a barn " and "Mr. Williamson for John Stursaker's house,<br />
and more for the Eastham milner's messuage." In 1695, when soke was practically<br />
abolished, one Thomas Bixsteth was granted liberty by the corporation to Ibid., iv. 364.<br />
