Always provided that the said Thomas, Robert, Richard, and<br />
William (the representative burgesses) shall make and repair the said<br />
mills at their own costs, taking sufficient structural timber for such<br />
making and repairing as may be required from our parks <strong>of</strong> Toxteth<br />
and Croxteth and our forest <strong>of</strong> Simonswood, by view and liberation<br />
<strong>of</strong> our foresters there.<br />

In 1399, the Duchy <strong>of</strong> Lancaster being un<strong>it</strong>ed to the<br />
Crown by the accession <strong>of</strong> Henry IV., leases <strong>of</strong> town<br />
or mills were granted or renewed by the sovereign ;<br />
and though in various renewals " our mills "<br />
are<br />
included, they are not specified. In 1410 another<br />
allusion to lands juxta Euerstan milne occurs.<br />
Katharine, widow <strong>of</strong> William Fil Adam, married,<br />
secondly, Thomas del Crosse del Hough, <strong>of</strong> Wigan ;<br />
and on his death settled her interest in the mill, in<br />
141 2, upon her son by her first marriage, John de<br />
Liverpool, junr. ; but eventually <strong>it</strong> passed to Richard<br />
Crosse, her son by her second marriage, in whose<br />
family <strong>it</strong> long<br />
remained :—<br />
