Incidental allusions appearing to prove their continu-<br />
ance as private mills for some time. The following<br />
refer to one <strong>of</strong> them, viz. the Castlefields Mill :—<br />
N.D. (c. 1257). One selion in Le Lendingfeld * [field containing<br />
the landing-place on the pool], w<strong>it</strong>h a quarter burgage in Le<br />
Mulnefeld.<br />
1334. Certain butts <strong>of</strong> land in Le Lending extending from Le<br />
Mulne rakes [mill fields] to the bank [<strong>of</strong> the pool].<br />
1387.<br />
Land near Le Milnedame.<br />
1401. A burgage in Le Dalestreete bordering on the king's<br />
highway [Kirkdale and Scotland Roads] t and extending to Le<br />
Milnedame.<br />
1420. A messuage in vil de Lyverpull, viz. in le dalestreete<br />
between the tenement <strong>of</strong> Robert de Derby and le Milne dame.<br />
1423. Sciant quod ego Henricus de Bretherton capellanus dedi<br />
Nicholas de Lyverpull clico et Johanne uxori eius et hered inter eos<br />
exeuntibus omnia illas terras [&c.] que habui ex dono et fe<strong>of</strong>famento<br />
eiusdam Nichas in campis et villa de Lyverpull. . . . Item quinquaginta<br />
pedes in lat<strong>it</strong>udine et quadraginta pedes in long<strong>it</strong>udine in<br />
le Castelfeld ex dimissione Richardi Chenall ubi molendinu aquaticum<br />
Stat. . . . Item except uno burgage in le dalestreete et<br />
except uno molendino aquatico juxta Dalefield. Dat apud Lyverpull<br />
die Sabbi in ffesto Sancti Marise Magdalene, anno 5 H. 5.<br />
Be <strong>it</strong> known that I, Henry de Bretherton, chantry priest, have<br />
granted to Nicholas <strong>of</strong> Liverpool, cleric, and Joan, his wife, and their<br />
heirs, all those lands, &c., in the fields and town <strong>of</strong> Liverpool which<br />
I have had by gift and fe<strong>of</strong>fment <strong>of</strong> the said Nicholas. . . . Item, a<br />
plot 50 feet by 40 feet in the Castle Field, demised by Richard<br />
Chenall, where the watermill stands. [W<strong>it</strong>h reversions] . . . except<br />
one burgage in Dale Street and one watermill juxta the Dalefield.<br />
Given at Liverpool, Saturday <strong>of</strong> the Feast <strong>of</strong> Mary Magdalene<br />
[July 22], 1423.<br />

1524. Two sandlands juxta the Wh<strong>it</strong>e Crosse, abutting at the east on Le<br />
Nether fylde de Eu'ton, and extending beyond the way which runs between<br />
Walton and Liverpool, on Le Poledych.<br />
1 541. No person to lay any ballast or rubbish in the Lake upon the<br />
Warthe, alias the Wharfe.<br />
