Ohio and Erie Canal <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Providing seed grants to communities working on natural, historical, and recreational projects<br />

along the Ohio & Erie Canalway.<br />

• Restoration of historic structures.<br />

• Development of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark, and<br />

Tuscarawas counties.<br />

• Providing interpretation technical assistance and support to communities and organizations<br />

working on the Ohio & Erie Canalway.<br />

• Providing seed grants to connector trails to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.<br />

Oil Region <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Continue Erie-to-Pittsburgh Trail development, including trailhead construction and trail<br />

segments.<br />

• Continue interior rehabilitation of the Tarbell House.<br />

• Conduct preservation consultation services for municipalities, non-profits, and property owners in<br />

the Heritage Area.<br />

• Continue Natural Gas History Initiative.<br />

• Coordination of continued implementation of Oil Region <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area Management<br />

Plan.<br />

Quinebaug-Shetucket Rivers Valley <strong>National</strong> Heritage Corridor<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• The Last Green Valley Grant Program.<br />

• Green & Growing implementation and facilitation of partnerships.<br />

• Expansion of water resource protection programs.<br />

• Expansion of stewardship education programs.<br />

Rivers of Steel <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Staff and increase tours and programming at the Carrie Furnace <strong>National</strong> Historic Landmark site.<br />

• Open the W.A. Young Foundry and Machine Shop to the public for tours and educational<br />

programs.<br />

• Staff and increase programming at the Battle of Homestead site.<br />

• Expand receptive services to promote and market the heritage area internationally.<br />

• Implement a comprehensive study to link and leverage the river access, trail connections, and<br />

local economic development opportunities for former Big Steel town along the Monongahela<br />

River.<br />

Sangre de Cristo <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Continue to work on completion of management plan and early implementation projects.<br />

Schuylkill River Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• The 15 th Annual Schuylkill River Sojourn.<br />

• Event planning and educational programming at the heritage area’s Interpretive Center.<br />

• Continue Schuylkill River Trail work in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.<br />
