Crossroads of the American Revolution <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Continued implementation of the strategic plan of the management plan.<br />

• Creation of a heritage area grant program.<br />

• Continued development of the online image library on website.<br />

Delaware & Lehigh <strong>National</strong> Heritage Corridor<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Continue the work of building and caring for the Delaware & Lehigh Trail.<br />

• Build upon the Tales of the Towpath fourth grade educational program.<br />

• Increase volunteer services to help partners that own the Delaware & Lehigh Trail.<br />

Erie Canalway <strong>National</strong> Heritage Corridor<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Communications and outreach.<br />

• Tourism development and marketing.<br />

• Preservation of historic, cultural, and natural resources.<br />

• Erie Canalway Heritage Award of Excellence.<br />

Essex <strong>National</strong> Heritage Area<br />

Projects that would utilize <strong>NPS</strong> Heritage Partnership Funding in 2013:<br />

• Education and interpretation: Continue to expand school programs with <strong>NPS</strong> at Salem Maritime,<br />

Saugus Iron Works, and seek to bring them into Salem Sound; seek new opportunities to develop<br />

teacher programs on the three nationally significant themes of the Heritage Area and our area’s<br />

<strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong> units while also increasing the emphasis on environmental and science education;<br />

continue to assist <strong>NPS</strong> with its interpretive programs aboard the tall ship Friendship at her berth<br />

and on her ambassadorial sails; and continue educational partnership opportunities with other<br />

institutes of learning.<br />

• Interpretation and heritage promotion: Continue to lead the 13 community regional scenic byway<br />

initiative to ensure that it becomes the important interpretive, resource conservation, and<br />

economic tool that is envisioned in the plan.<br />

• Education, interpretation, and heritage promotion: Provide ongoing regional outreach programs<br />

such as Trails & Sails, lecture series, and membership and special events that provide hundreds<br />

of collaborative opportunities for partnerships in the Area and with <strong>NPS</strong>.<br />

• Trail development and resource conservation: Continue to drive for completion of more sections<br />

of the Border to Boston and the Coastal Trail; continue the regional partnerships for developing<br />

the Merrimack River Trail; and promote the importance and well-being provided by these regional<br />

trails.<br />

• Job creation and youth engagement: Work to expand the youth job corps program and seek to<br />

expand grant opportunities to sites and organizations in the area.<br />

• Sustainability: Expand fee based programs to increase organizational sustainability and that of<br />

partners; enhance the effectiveness of development activities; continue to increase the efficiency<br />

and value of the website and other electronic media; and continue developing sustainable<br />

interpretive programs.<br />
