<strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Service</strong> FY 2013 Budget Justifications<br />

sustainability; deferred maintenance; and minor capital improvement. Projects then are reviewed and<br />

approved by the <strong>Service</strong>wide Repair Rehabilitation Program Manager, who is part of the <strong>Park</strong> Facility<br />

Management Division. This is to ensure that overall DOI and <strong>NPS</strong> strategic goals are met. This program is<br />

coordinated by regional offices, with Washington Office oversight.<br />

The following are examples of projects that are scheduled to be funded in FY 2013 under Repair<br />

Rehabilitation projects documented in the Project Management Information System (PMIS) and<br />

scheduled to be completed by FY 2015:<br />

• Cuyahoga Valley <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong>: Environmental Education Center Waste Water Improvements.<br />

Cuyahoga Environmental Education Center. The Center provides educational program<br />

opportunities for children. The wastewater system is in need of upgrades and has met the end of<br />

its lifecycle. This project indicates a projected change in the condition from POOR to GOOD<br />

condition. [API 78 (of 100), Total Project Score 859 (of 1,000)].<br />

• Mount Rainier <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong>: Rehabilitate the Historic Nisqually Ranger Station to Improve<br />

Condition and Energy Efficiency. Nisqually Ranger Station is a historically significant structure. It<br />

is first stop for visitors to get information about the park. This project will not only restore the<br />

structure but also address fire suppression and energy efficiency needs. This project indicates a<br />

projected change in the condition from POOR to GOOD condition. [API 82 (of 100), Total Project<br />

Score 663 (of 1,000)].<br />

Mount Rainier NP’s Historic Nisqually Ranger Station<br />

Five-Year Deferred Maintenance and Capital Improvement Plan: The <strong>NPS</strong> has developed a Five-Year<br />

Deferred Maintenance and Capital Improvement Plan which lists projects of greatest need:<br />

• providing a better understanding of <strong>Service</strong>wide deferred maintenance needs and reducing<br />

factors that contribute to that need;<br />

• ensuring compliance with Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Statement<br />

of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS) Number 6 on DM reporting; and<br />

O<strong>NPS</strong>-88
