Timber World Services 

Milling Facilities - in order to accommodate smaller runs to 

large orders of any size, Timber World has mills placed in all 

its regional hubs. 

In addition, our National Production Centre, based at 

Mosborough Sheffield, which has recently benefited from a 

£1 million investment, produces all standard stock for the 

entire Group. This means that economies of scale can be 

passed on to our customers, who can be assured of a fast 

turnaround, excellent quality and a service that’s unrivalled 

anywhere within the UK. 

Timber Treatment 

Timber World is keen to promote environmentally 

advanced alternatives - Tanalith E is therefore 

offered. Tanalith E is a new timber preservative 

with no chrome or arsenic. Also on offer is Vascol 

Aqua, a water-based treatment that is also more 

environmentally friendly than other, traditional 

methods. 

Fabrication 

The Fabrication Department has been housed at 

the Leeds Depot for over 45 years and 

encompasses a wealth of knowledge in all aspects 

of laminate fabrication, backed by some of the 

most modern equipment available. 

ISO9001 registered, all fabrication work is carried 

out in accordance with the British Laminate 

Fabricators Association code of practice. 

The facilities available include: 

• Pressing services – from small panels to large 

boards, using standard PVA, fire rated and water 

resistant adhesives; 

• Panel cutting service, using a new state of 

the art Giben beam saw, which includes an 

optimisation package and panel labelling, 

if required; 

• Panel shaping, drilling and machining facilities 

using the latest Biesse Rover 30 machining 

centre, supported by the latest Alpha CAM 

software; 

• Panel edging in melamine tape, PVC, wood 

tapes, laminate and hardwoods on a state of 

the art edge bander, using a PU glueline; 

• Machining of compact grade laminates; 

• Weinig Machine – for faster delivery of one off 

profiles of exceptional quality, Timber World has 

invested in two Weinig Powermat moulders - 

each with a 12 inch capability.



Timber World Distribution Services 

The ability to deliver dependably and consistently is critical 

to the success of our business. Our customers have busy 

schedules. They rely on our efficient and flexible delivery 

service. This is why we operate a 150 strong delivery fleet, 

making over 25,000 drops a month. Products can be 

delivered direct to our customers’ premises or to any predetermined 

location. 

Ex-stock items are delivered next day or within 48 hours. 

Increasingly, Timber World has been working in partnership 

with its customers, ensuring a cost effective ‘just in time’ 

delivery schedule. We can therefore deliver previously 

agreed ‘house packs’ direct to the build site, thus reducing 

customers’ stockholding. 

We achieve this excellent delivery service through 

continuous investment in vehicles, excellent transport staff 

and associated computer transport packages. 

In addition, we have dedicated vehicles delivering laminate 

products nationwide on a regular basis. This service ensures 

that our products reach our customers in perfect condition.



Timber World Product Range 

Hardwoods & Softwoods 

We know timber - its strengths, its weaknesses, its 

qualities and its applications. We can therefore 

provide our customers with all the advice they 

need and can meet requirements for virtually all 

species from stock. When we can’t, we’ll source it 

specially. 

We also offer a full machining service, including 

specials, and can supply everything from simple 

lengths of timber to intricate mouldings. 

Within our softwood range, we also stock a full 

complement of clear softwoods, which are always 

available from our own UK landed stock. This 

includes Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Western Red Cedar 

and Southern Yellow Pine, as well as Parana Pine 

and Quebec Yellow Pine. 

Mouldings 

We offer the largest selection of ex-stock 

mouldings – including softwood, hardwood and 

MDF - from the best possible suppliers at the best 

possible value for money. State of the art 

machinery also means that customers working 

with a very short lead-time can receive specials on 

time. 

Panel Products 

We source from all corners of the globe to offer a 

wide range of chipboards, hardwoods, MDF, 

insulation and plasterboards, as well as plywoods, 

OSB and cement-based boards. 

Veneered plywoods, blockboards, chipboards, MDF, 

flame proofed doors and door blanks are also 

stocked in a wide range of finishes with specialist 

veneering available to order. 

A wide range of decorative veneered boards are 

available ex-stock, as well as commercial plywoods, 

blockboards and door blanks, plus chipboard, OSB 

and special plywoods. 

Decorative Surfaces 

We offer thousands of styles, colours, patterns and 

textural combinations, as well as prompt 

nationwide delivery. Sourcing and storage of 

special or regular requirements, plus dedicated 

laminate specialists at each branch ensures our 

laminate service is second to none. 

We also offer a specialist direct-to-customer 

delivery service using custom-built vehicles from 

our nationwide distribution centre.






External Doors 

Our range of external doors encompasses all styles 

and timber species - from a traditional range of 

hardwood styles to a more luxurious range of Oak 

veneered. 

A full range of patio doors, including a new door 

set, complete with sliding track to open up the 

whole doorway is available, allowing more light 

into any room. 

Internal Doors 

We hold one of the best ranges in the market, 

which incorporates the market leaders in door 

technology. 

As well as a complete range of commodity doors, 

we offer FD30 and FD60 door kits which can be 

supplied within 21 days. 

In addition to this, more specialist-imported doors 

are brought into the country via nationwide 

suppliers. 

Windows 

We offer a full range of accredited windows: 

• Hardwood and softwood windows are available, 

offering some of the best guarantees in the market. 

All windows can be supplied fully finished with 

varying types of ironmongery; 

• The PVCu window range incorporates one of 

the most slimline and popular extrusions on the 

market. A flat pack window cavity closer is also 

available for new build properties and with just ten 

product lines, this covers every size of UK standard 

windows; 

• A mix of special windows can also be 

manufactured including bay windows, Oriel, 

elliptical and fixed pane; 

• A comprehensive collection of roof windows that 

are coupled with a full accessories range of blinds, 

flashings and electrical packs. 

Stairs 

A varied range of staircases is available, 

incorporating the latest technology for both 

standard domestic and commercial solutions. 

The range includes softwood, Oak, Parana Pine and 

hardwood. Using state of the art CNC 

manufacturing capabilities, we can deliver 

accurate, excellent quality stairs. A full design and 

planning service is also available. 

We also have a select range of spiral staircases that 

are suitable for apartments and secondary stairs, as 

well as private dwellings. Our dedicated website

Fire Retardants 

We understand the legislation and safety issues 

involved in the construction industry and therefore 

stock one of the largest ranges of fire retardant 

materials on offer, including doors, sheet materials 

and solid timber. 

Kitchens 

Arnold Laver Contract Kitchens Division is proud to 

present a range of kitchens designed around detail, 

function and choice. We are able to offer our 

increasingly popular Accent kitchen range as well 

as bespoke solutions for any contemporary or 

traditional development. 

Leading brand appliances and a large selection of 

high quality laminate worktops, plus an efficient 

and well-established distribution and installation 

service supports all of this. 

Flooring 

Our comprehensive range of natural floor 

coverings is available in a large selection of 

species in engineered, laminated, pre-finished and 

unfinished hardwood, including Oak, Ash and 

Maple – to name just a few, with most lines 

available ex-stock. 



Decking 

A large range of both softwood and hardwood 

decking in a variety of profiles is available ex-stock 

all year round. This is complemented by a choice of 

balustrading from leading branded manufacturers, 

plus all the necessary ironmongery and canned 

products needed to complete a decking project. 

Engineered Products Division 

The EP Division manufactures roof trusses, with a 

capacity to produce over 2,000 per week. They are 

also the master dealers for the iLevel TM timber floor 

framing system, with a capacity to produce 80 

floors per week. 

This new, state of the art centre regularly benefits 

from significant investments for new machinery 

and as a result, the logistical and manufacturing 

processes are continually being streamlined. 

The division employs a team of qualified CAD 

designers and production staff, who work on roof 

truss and iLevel TM Floor designs.



Timber World Board Members 

Andrew James Laver, Managing Director 

Andrew Laver is an associate of the Institute of 

Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and 

qualified with Price Waterhouse in London. 

Following Price Waterhouse, Andrew worked for 

Central Television Plc in both London and Moscow, 

where he worked as a Divisional Financial Director. 

He joined Arnold Laver & Co. Ltd. in 1994. In 2003, 

Andrew became Managing Director of Arnold Laver 

& Co. Ltd. He is also a non-executive Director of 

Sheffield United Plc. 

Arnold David Laver, Chairman 

David Laver joined Arnold Laver & Co Ltd. in 1967 

and has been involved in all aspects of the 

business, becoming Managing Director in 1997. 

David has close ties with the Timber Trades 

Federation and has been closely involved with 

training initiatives for the industry. In 2003, David 

became Chairman of Arnold Laver & Co. Ltd. 

David John Walker, Company Director 

David Walker has spent his entire career in the 

timber trade. In 1966, he joined Rudders and Payne 

Ltd., on a trainee apprentice scheme and quickly 

progressed to becoming Area Sales Representative 

in 1969. In 1973 he joined Cartwright and 

Company (Boards) Ltd. as a Sales Manager and was 

promoted to Sales Director in 1975. 

In 1977, David and a colleague formed Birmingham 

Boards Company Ltd., which grew into a major 

Midlands merchant business, with depots in 

Oldbury and Kidderminster. By the time it was 

acquired by Arnold Laver in 1995, the Birmingham 

Boards Company had become a highly regarded 

business. David remains as Managing Director of 

Birmingham Timber World and is also a Director of 

Arnold Laver & Co. Ltd. 

Mark Bower, 

Finance Director & Company Secretary 

Mark is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered 

Accountants in England and Wales having qualified 

with Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse 

Cooper). After working for the computer systems 

group within Coopers, Mark joined Arnold Laver in 

1986. In addition to his role within Timber World, 

Mark has a central role within the Leisure and 

Property divisions.
