The works proposed to be carried out during this year are mainly construction
of storage shed, finalization of methodology for sustainable harvest of above
identified three species. Study of population, trade and associated issues in the site
etc., Conducting of workshop, collection of seeds and product etc. Extension,
communication and outreach activities such as display of boards, printing of
brochures, posters etc., are being carried out. The services of NGO called Canara
Green Academy is utilised for technical support and extension works.
II. Sustainable harvesting and Resource augmentation at Elimane in Agumbe
Range of Shimoga Forest Division:-
Identification of the area:-
Dasanakoodige village in Agumbe Range of Thirthahalli sub-division,
Shimoga Division is selected. The project is being implemented with the support of
Rashtrakavi Kuvempu VFC, Elimane.
I-Survey and demarcation of the area:-
Dasankoodige village is having a geographical area of 635.77 ha. It is an
Evergreen Forest area. Out of this, an area of 250 Ha. is surveyed for implementation
of the project.
2.. Constitution of Task Team:-
As per the guidelines of FRLHT, a task team consisting of 14 members
including the members and the President of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu VFC is constituted.
3. .Identification of medicinal plant species and documentation of local knowledge:-
Since the Minor Forest Produce such as Halrnaddi (Ailanthus malabarica),
Rampathre (Myristica malabarica) and Kalumenasu (Piper Nigrum) are found in
abundance in this area. These species have been selected for sustainable harvesting
and resource augmentation. Documentation of local knowledge relating to the
identified species, preparation of baseline data with area site profile has been done and
are being finalised.
4.Capacity building activity:-
A workshop was conducted to improve the knowledge of take holders,
meetings are conducted at the village level through local folk healers and NGOs.
