EMERGENCY RELEASE OF PASSENGERS
EMERGENCY HANDWINDING
To be used ONLY in the case of an emergency and ONLY by authorised persons
who have had instructions in its use. It is dangerous for any other person to
attempt do so.
Before any emergency operation is attempted, a minimum of two authorised
persons must attend and establish effective communication with one another.
PROCEDURE:
A BEFORE OPERATING HANDWINDING MECHANISM
1 Call the Lift Engineers’ Emergency Service.
2 Switch off the power supply at the main switch (marked).
3 Warn any passengers in the lift that it is about to be moved and therefore
to stand clear of the doors and remain in the car until instructed to leave.
4 Check that all landing doors are closed and locked.
5 Ensure car door/gates are closed.
6 One authorised person to position him/herself where motion of the car
can be established and to confirm and communicate the movement and
position of the car to the second authorised person in the machine room.
B TO MOVE THE CAR
7 Providing the car is free to be moved in the downward direction then it
should be wound to the nearest floor below.
8 If this is not practical due to distance and/or lack of balance, an attempt
should be made to move the car upward.
9 If the lift car does not move, cease all attempts, reassure trapped
passengers and await Lift Engineer’s arrival.
C PASSENGER RELEASE
10 Release passengers by opening doors with the release key.
11 LEAVE LIFT SWITCHED OFF AND ENSURE ALL LANDING DOORS ARE
CLOSED AND LOCKED.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE LIFT IN ANY OTHER FASHION
ELECTRIC LIFT-EFFORT REQUIRED
