HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
“In 2007/8 there were 678 reported accidental releases or escape of any substance
in a quantity sufficient to cause death, major injury or any other damage to the
health of any person.” - HSE.
We have extended our Hazardous Substances product range to include spill kit signs and
have incorporated the new CLP legislation into our signs.
The new European Regulation on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances
and Mixtures (EC1272/2008), known as the CLP Regulation, came into force in January
2009.
This new regulation implements the UN Global Harmonised System (GHS), which is
designed to provide a more consistent hazard communication system throughout the
world. It also introduces a new system of symbols (see page 152), which will eventually
replace the CHIP symbols.
There will be a two stage transition process with substances being relabelled by 1st
December 2010, and mixtures being relabelled by 1st June 2015.
