PRAYER AND REFLECTION
For the Third Sunday of Advent
December 16, 2012
Read: Luke 3:10-18
ON this Third Sunday of Advent we hear again
from John the Baptist. The crowds ask him
what they should do to prepare for the Lord. His
answer is very practical, very specific and very
authoritative. Let’s pray for minds and hearts
open to listening to God’s message to us today.
When the crowds asked John the Baptist how
to prepare for Jesus, he told them to share, to
be fair, to regard the needs of others. Let us
pray that John’s message will take root in us as
we pray for Jesus to … Be born in us; be born
in our world.
That followers of Christ may be announcers of
good news and examples of holiness for all the
world, we pray …
That dialogue, cooperation and understanding
may replace violent means to settling our
differences, we pray …
That those burdened by too much will share
with those who have too little, we pray …
That those who find it difficult to rejoice at
Christmastime may be comforted, consoled and
offered companionship, we pray …
That those we love may be safe, happy and
good … we pray …
We remember those who have died, and that
those who are mourning the loss of a loved one
may take comfort in the hope of the
Resurrection, we pray …
PRAYER:
Loving God, you sent John the Baptist
to prepare the way for Jesus. Give us
what we need to turn away from sin
and embrace a life of grace, peace and
love so that we too may announce your
presence to our waiting world. We pray
in the name of Emmanuel, our God-
With-Us, your son and our savior,
Christ the Lord. .Amen.
CELEBRATION DECEMBER 2012
Holy Family Parish THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
III Dom do Advento (Ano C): – Sofonias 3,14- 18a; Salmo (Is 12,2-6); Filipenses 4,4-7; Lucas 3, 10-18
praticar a justiça e a fraternidade (cf. vv.10-14).
Jesus.
sentido radical do anúncio profético.
A 2ª leitura exorta a
Ó Deus do universo,
tu vês o teu povo preparando,
fervoroso, o Natal do Senhor.
Dá-nos a graça de trilhar com alegria
o caminho que ele nos abriu
e celebrar sempre o teu louvor
Por Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor!
Amém.
Gospel: Luke 3:10-18 --
John the Baptist announces the coming of the Messiah
Question of the Week:
If you were to write three suggestions for those who follow Jesus, to
keep them strong in their faith, what would you write?
As a household, continue the process of slowly adding decorations and
preparing for the Feast of Christmas.
Spiritual goal for this week:
In order to really hear God speaking,
I must quiet myself and listen.
This week, I will allow my inner ear to do the hearing.
Make this year unlike any other!
Start as a family or household today.
Instead of making a list of things you want for Christmas,
make a list of things you can give away!
Today’s resolution:
Give away some money this week – to someone unsuspecting but worthy.
Just give it without telling anyone, even the recipient.
Getting closer to Christmas! Say this prayer today.
Hail Mary! Full of Grace. The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women.
And blessed is the fruit of your womb: Jesus.
Don’t forget the needy among you.
