Within a short time, UPM Shotton developed<br />

into one of the largest and most important<br />

suppliers of newsprint based on<br />

TMP and recovered fibre.<br />

In 2002, UPM established the “100%<br />

Shotton” Project. This means that, in<br />

future, Newsprint will be produced exclusively<br />

from domestic recovered fibre.<br />

A new, third recovered fibre system has<br />

been installed (see twogether issue<br />

18/04).<br />

Within the three-week November 2003<br />

shutdown, the PM 2 was rebuilt:<br />

● the third press was converted into a<br />

shoe press<br />

(max. linear load 1,050 kN/m),<br />

● the fourth press was replaced by an<br />

additional dryer group with two<br />

ProRelease boxes,<br />

● the fifth dryer group was converted<br />

from two-tier to single-tier,<br />

● a ropeless threading system was<br />

installed,<br />
