Digipass Plug-In for SBR Administrator Reference Field Listings 7.9 Data Changes Requiring a Restart 7.9.1 Changes to the Data Store 7.9.1.1 ODBC or Embedded Database All modifications listed in the Cached Data List topic below will not take effect until the SBR Plug-In is restarted, or until the caches re-load the data automatically. Where multiple SBR Plug-Ins are in use, with multiple databases, user-configured synchronization between the databases must be considered. A SBR Plug-In will not know about a data change made in another SBR Plug-In's database until that change has been copied to its own database. Example SBR Plug-In 1 is using Database 1 (Db1); SBR Plug-In 2 is using Database 2 (Db2); A data change is made on Db1, via the Administration MMC Interface. SBR Plug-In 1 will see the change as soon as it is restarted; SBR Plug-In 2 will see the change at the first restart after database synchronization has transferred the change to Db2. 7.9.1.2 Active Directory If the data store is Active Directory, all modifications listed in the Cached Data List topic below will not take effect until the SBR Plug-In is restarted, or until the caches re-load the data automatically. In addition, it is necessary for Active Directory replication to make the modification available to the SBR Plug-In, if there is more than one Domain Controller used by the SBR Plug-Ins. For example: Example SBR Plug-In 1 is connected to Domain Controller 1 (DC1); SBR Plug-In 2 is connected to Domain Controller 2 (DC2); A data change is made on DC1; SBR Plug-In 1 will see the change as soon as it is restarted; SBR Plug-In 2 will see the change at the first restart after Active Directory replication has transferred the change to DC2. You must also remember that when the SBR Plug-In starts up, it tries to locate an available Domain Controller, and may not choose the same one again. In the above example, if both Domain Controllers are local to SBR Plug-In 2, DC1 may be chosen by SBR Plug-In 2 when it is restarted. Digipass Plug-In for SBR Administrator Reference Field Listings 7.9.1.3 Automatic Re-Loading of Cached Data In the SBR Plug-In, all cached data is periodically re-loaded from the data store. This time period, around 15 minutes, is tracked for each entry separately. Therefore, even without a restart, data changes will typically take effect within a matter of minutes (unless Active Directory replication slows the process down). 7.9.1.4 Cached Data List The following data modifications relate to cached data: Creation, editing and deletion of Policy records Creation, editing and deletion of Component records Creation, editing and deletion of Back-End Server records For ODBC and embedded databases: Creation, editing and deletion of Domain records For Active Directory: Digipass Application updates resulting from OTP verification, PIN changes and certain administrative actions such as resetting the PIN – see 2.4.4.1 Digipass Cache for more information on the Digipass Cache. 7.9.2 Changes to Configuration Settings Configuration settings are modified using the SBR Plug-In Configuration GUI, or can be modified directly in the XML file (see 11 Configuration Settings). All configuration settings require a restart. The SBR Plug-In Configuration GUI automatically prompts to restart the Service upon exiting. However if you modify the file directly, you will need to restart the Steel- Belted RADIUS Service using the Windows Service Control Manager. Advanced Settings for ODBC and embedded databases Advanced configuration settings are edited using the Configure Advanced Settings button on the ODBC Connection tab. As they are stored in the database itself, if you copy a database from one SBR Plug-In to another, these settings will be copied also. © 2006 VASCO Data Security Inc. 97
