The last lines characterize the position of a dawadar between the civil
and/militaryelite. He is praised for his bounty and his good governance,
yet he mayaiso behave as angry as a lion -the hunter par excellenceagainst
his enemies. But he is also part of the world of the 'ulama'. This is
stressed in the two last couplets. Therefore, he is a bearer of b6th sword
and pen. Shihäb al-Dins concluding words may be understood as a reference
to the Mufakhara bayna 'l-Sayfwa 'l-Qalamthat Ibn Nubäta dedicated
to the dawadar. This tardiyya is Shihäb al-Dills gift to the 'bearer
of the royal inkwell:
