Production of this model was halted in mid-1942 in favor of the N-model with its short-barrelled 75mm gun. Options: Additional mantlet armor, Additional superstructure armor.

The 50mm L/60 gun, which had become ineffective against more modern medium tanks, was replaced by the 75mm L/24 gun, which was capable of firing both high-explosive shells, in the infantry support role, and high-explosive antitank shells (HEAT) with greater armor penetrating capability than the 50mm gun. Due to increased weight of the 75mm gun, additional mantlet armor was not available, however, this was made up for in part by the addition of Schuerzen armor skirts. Only 663 of this variant of the PzKpfw III were produced, and 37 converted from older models, before production ceased in mid-1943. Options: Additional superstructure armor, Schuerzen armor skirts.
