Machinegun Team<br />

<strong>The</strong> US Army machinegun team consisted of a half-squad. <strong>The</strong>se were normally combined into a section of<br />

two or three teams. <strong>The</strong> team was responsible for manning a single Browning M2HB .50 heavy machinegun.<br />

This weapon was very powerful for a machinegun, and was capable of knocking out light vehicles at over 1,000<br />

meters. <strong>The</strong> soldiers were also armed with the M1 Garand semiautomatic rifle, a .30 caliber rifle with an 8round<br />

internal magazine fed through the top by stripper clips. All of the soldiers carried the Mark II<br />

“pineapple” hand grenades.<br />

<strong>The</strong> US Army Bazooka team consisted of a half-squad. <strong>The</strong>se were normally combined into a section of two<br />

teams. <strong>The</strong> team was responsible for manning a single M1 2.36” Bazooka rocket launcher. This weapon was<br />

capable of knocking out some enemy tanks at about 100 meters using a HEAT round derived from the M9A1<br />

antitank rifle grenade. <strong>The</strong> soldiers were also armed with the M1 Garand semiautomatic rifle, a .30 caliber rifle<br />

with an 8-round internal magazine fed through the top by stripper clips. All of the soldiers carried the Mark<br />

II “pineapple” hand grenades.<br />

<strong>The</strong> US Army infantry squad consisted of two half-squads, normally a regular infantry half-squad and a BAR<br />

team. <strong>The</strong> soldiers were armed primarily with the M1 Garand semiautomatic rifle, a .30 caliber rifle with an<br />

8-round internal magazine fed through the top by stripper clips. <strong>The</strong> BAR gunner carried the .30 Browning<br />

Automatic Rifle, a heavy rifle which used 20-round detachable box magazines and included a built-in bipod<br />

(although this was often removed in the field). All of the soldiers carried the Mark II “pineapple” hand<br />

grenades, as well as extra ammunition for the BAR.<br />
