<strong>The</strong> M3 series halftrack replaced the M2 version, which was produced throughout 1941 and had similar<br />

characteristics to the M3 version. 41,170 halftracks of all types were built, including the artillery and<br />

machinegun variants covered here. This vehicle was originally designed to carry a full infantry squad of ten to<br />

thirteen men and all of their equipment. Some variants mounted extra machineguns, mortars, antitank guns,<br />

antiaircraft guns, and even artillery. Several of these models are described below.<br />
