Annual Poetry Competition
Following previous success, the English department
has once again run its poetry competition to tie in
with National Poetry Day which took place on
October 4 th . This year’s theme was ‘Stars’, and over
200 budding poets entered, following in the footsteps
of William Wordsworth and Carol Ann Duffy. Anyone
interested in reading the students’ fantastic poetry
should head over to C Block where a display
showcases the entries. With many different
interpretations of the theme and various styles of
poem, there’s bound to be something to interest
everyone. Congratulations to Jenny Bullas for her
winning entry:

Ode to a Stargazer
Stop watching me when I'm trying to pull shapes with
my friends,
We came here together for a good time.
Didn't ask for some parka-clad weirdo to check us
out.
Ogle us with his wide-angle lens.
Give us pet names -
I take particular exception to "Great Bear".
You take photos;
Blow them up, pin them up.
Slip them into albums with the time and the date and
where we went.
Some nights I hope it clouds over.
Creep.
