“Ah, yes.” Aunt Marty smiles at me. “Really, Ruthie,<br />
there’s only one major thing you need to know about<br />
attracting guys.”<br />
I rotate as far as the seat belt will let me. Aunt Marty<br />
turns onto Main Street and heads for Middletown. If<br />
Odessa had one, I’m sure she would drive in the fast lane.<br />
“You have the power to teach a guy how to treat you.<br />
The way you act will determine how he acts. So, if you want<br />
Perry to start treating you like his girlfriend instead of his<br />
pal, act like a sensual being.”<br />
“Sensual being,” I repeat, without a clue how to actually<br />
become one.<br />
“I’m not talking about sex,” she adds. “Sensuality and<br />
sexuality are two very different things. Sensuality is the way<br />
you feel about yourself. It’s confidence. Sex is a whole other<br />
matter. Teenage sex is always a disaster. Why put yourself<br />
through it? I guarantee, you’ll never regret waiting. But you<br />
almost certainly will regret it if you don’t.”<br />
I nod. Even the thought of having sex with Perry Gould<br />
makes me blush persimmon.<br />
“What you need to do with Perry,” Aunt Marty says, “is<br />
change your loop.”<br />
“My loop?”<br />
“Any relationship between two people is a loop,” she<br />
explains. “Both sides respond to each other and keep the<br />
