Chapter – 4<br />
SUB-BASES, BASES (NON-BITUMINOUS) AND SHOULDERS<br />
1 Quantities <strong>of</strong> materials provided are approximate <strong>and</strong> are meant <strong>for</strong> the purpose <strong>of</strong> estimating only.<br />
Actual quantities shall be as per mix design.<br />
2 For construction <strong>of</strong> sub-base, two alternatives as under have been provided.<br />
a. Mix in place method<br />
b. Plant mix method<br />

3 Construction <strong>of</strong> shoulders: - Earthen, Hard <strong>and</strong> Paved shoulders have been considered, the rates<br />
applicable are <strong>for</strong> subgrade, sub-base <strong>and</strong> different layers <strong>of</strong> pavement respectively.<br />
4 In the case <strong>of</strong> improvement <strong>of</strong> subgrade with lime stabilization, soil is assumed to be available at the<br />
site <strong>and</strong> has not been provided <strong>for</strong>. Only lime has been catered. In the case <strong>of</strong> lime stabilization <strong>of</strong> subbase,<br />
soil has been provided to <strong>for</strong>m the sub-base.<br />
5 While providing <strong>for</strong> the rate <strong>of</strong> materials, detailed local enquires should be made <strong>and</strong> prevailing market<br />
rates ascertained from concerned suppliers in the area keeping in view the location <strong>of</strong> crushing plants<br />
<strong>and</strong> lead involved.<br />
6 The quantities considered in the output are the compacted quantities. The quantities <strong>of</strong> aggregates<br />
provided in the rate analysis under the head material are the uncompacted quantities.
