Comments: My earliest known maternal ancestor was Netty Moscovitz who was born in Russia in
1869. That was her married name -- I am uncertain of her maiden name. I believe that she
emigrated to Canada in the 1880s, later settling in Oregon. My ancestry is Jewish on both the
maternal and paternal sides. My father's haplogroup tested J1. I had assumed that I would also
fall into one of the four haplogroups, which the majority of Jewish women fall into. It was
surprising to find that I am U5b, which I understand is considered to be one of the oldest
European haplogroups with Scandinavian roots. What an amazing journey the last 50,000 years
must have been!
Comments: The most I know of my female ancestors are they are from IRELAND. That is why
finding a N1 haplogroup is so interesting to me. N1s are rare in Northern Europe. I am very
curious now as to when N1 did make migrations, no matter how minor they were.
