2007 Entries into Kerchner's MtDNA Test Results Log
some point long ago there was a line from Scandiavia or Scotland, thus the Thompson
(MacTavish) last name which was a great surprise since I did the Maternal Native American DNA
test. Everyone in my mother's family (Ashmore) looks Indian-dark hair, dark skin, family stories
and pictures. I have a picture of my great grandmother Liza Doyle Thompson when she was a
child at the turn of the century dressed in tradional Caddo dress and hairstyle. The family went
once a year to an annual weekly gathering at a lake in the middle of Caddo territory between
Louisiana and Texas to sing, dance, tell the old stories.
Comments: Earliest known maternal (mother's mother's...) line ancestor, my great great
grandmother: Reiza bat Movsha NEMENCHINSKY, 1822-1890, Vilna, Lithuania. Her daughter:
Noima SAPOZHNIK, 1859-1940, Vilna. Her daughter (my grandmother): Malka TABACZNIK,
1883 Vilna-1966 New York. To my knowledge, the whole family is Ashkenazic Jewish, with no
intermarriage from earliest date up to circa 1950. I would like to determine if my line is at all
Sephardic, although I have no family information regarding this possibility. I would also like to
determine which route family took from mid-east to Eastern Europe: via Rome then North, or via
Spain then East. Bennett Greenspan of FTDNA postulates a Roman origin for my maternal line.
The possible Roman origin was a bit of a surprize to me, and I would love to further document
this or disprove it. Alas, I have been unable to persuade the few remaining Cymerman males (my
father's father's...line)to test their Y-DNA, so I am stymied in that direction. Wish you had an
instant persuasive kit I could give them! Thank you Isabel Cymerman
