Date MtDNA Test Was Ordered: March 2004
Comments: My great-great grandmother was Mary Bailey, b 1827, probably in Miss. She married
Wm B Terry in 1845 in Itawambe co, Ms. Mary had a sister Harriet, 18, living with them in 1850
census. My great grandmother was Martha Julia Terry, b 20 May 1853 in Itawambe co, Ms d 11
Sept 1910, Springfield, MO. She married John Young Carney grandson of Richard Carney who
emmigrated from Ireland in 1820. My grandmother, Effa Alma Carney was born in 1884 in Ms
and died in 1907 in Mo of TB. She married in Benton Co, Ark. By 1910, Martha, and my
grandmother's sister were all dead of TB, and my mother was 8 years old. She lost all contact with
the family.She was always told however, that her grandmother was Cherokee. She searched for 20
years, and I searched the net and we found no evidence,thus the mtDNA. H3 is Iberian Penn,
largely Basque and Sardinian today. I have fouind no records on Bailey or Terry before the
marriage in Ms. Neither have other descendants. My autoaomal CNa shows only 2% NA and 3%
SSA and a whopping 57% Middle East and SEEuro (Turkish/Greek/Italian). I was brought up
Eng, Irish, Scots and German plus Cherokee. Mary Bailey couldn't be more English as names go.
Maybe too English?? Every one of them is white on the census records, pointing the finger at the
Terry/Bailey group f or some of the more obvious signs. H3 would fit with a connection to people
who fled the Inquisition. Terry is a Melungeon name. Some H3s did go up into the British Isles. I
would love to know the whole story.
