Comments: The maternal ancestors of my mother have lived for at least 150 years in South
Bohemia (South part of the Czech Republic) in the countryside in small villages and towns. Two
major ethnic groups lived in that area: Czechs and Jews (my mother was born in the small town of
Lukavec that had in the 19th century about 20% Jewish population. My grandmother (mother´s
mother) was born in that area, lived there all her life (she died at age 89 in 2004). Her cousin left
the region before WWII and has lived (and their children, grandchildren...) in the Chicago area.
My mother and I have been living in Prague.
