Deeds) students and members<br />

of Youth Leadership <strong>Laredo</strong><br />

are collaborating to plant<br />

trees at several schools in the<br />

<strong>United</strong> <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong>. They kicked off the<br />

first of these events at Killam<br />

Elementary <strong>School</strong> where a<br />

ceremony with the Student<br />

Council and the Honor’s Elementary<br />

Choir was held.<br />

L.E.A.D. and Youth<br />

Leadership <strong>Laredo</strong> representatives<br />

state that the purpose<br />

of their project is to enhance<br />

the learning environment for<br />

younger students and help encourage<br />

a sense of social and<br />

community responsibility.<br />

“Dia De Los Niños” Celebrated<br />

at Newman Elementary <strong>School</strong><br />

Newman Elementary <strong>School</strong> recently<br />

hosted a family picnic at their campus in<br />

honor of “Dia De Los Niños.” Many parents<br />

turned out for the event where they enjoyed<br />

lunch with their child, as well as, music and<br />

dance performances by students.<br />

New Big Lots Store Donates to Nye Elementary <strong>School</strong> Library<br />

Nye Elementary <strong>School</strong> was the<br />

recipient of a $2,500 donation from<br />

the new Big Lots store located at 7807<br />

San Dario Avenue at the North Creek<br />

Shopping Center. They were invited<br />

to be part of the store’s grand<br />

opening where the donation was<br />

presented to them. Pictured from left<br />
