KENNEDY-ZAPATA CHESS PLAYERS<br />
CONGRATULATIONS to Fernando Saucedo a 2nd grade student who received<br />
First Place in the Primary Section as well as Manuel Rodriguez a 4th<br />
grade student who received First Place in the Elementary Section in the 1st<br />
Annual Chess Tournament at Nixon High <strong>School</strong> held on May 5, 2012.<br />

JROTC Unarmed Drill Team won the overall<br />
Challenge Level National Championship in<br />
Daytona Beach, Florida on May 5, 2012.<br />
The cadets competed against 31 teams from<br />
across the country. Included in those teams<br />
were service champions from the Air Force,<br />
Navy, and Army. Additionally, there were<br />
teams that won their state championships<br />
and were regular competitors at the national<br />
level. The USHS cadets captured 1st place<br />
in the Color Guard event and 2nd place in the<br />
Inspection event. The team also placed in<br />
two other categories (Exhibition and Regulation<br />
Drill) which provided the team sufficient<br />
points to capture the overall title. The cadets<br />
were judged on their ability to execute drill<br />
movements with precision, technical difficulty,<br />
and unity. With this win, the team will<br />
now move up to the Masters Level next year.<br />
