reported that she accompanied the<br />
messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah on a journey. She said. "I had a race with him<br />
and beat. him (b yýrunning on my feet). When I became fleshy, I<br />
had a race with him and he beat me.,, He said, This is because <strong>of</strong> that<br />
race. 11 1 This is an example <strong>of</strong> how the Prophet treated his wife<br />
at times in order to give her comfort and enjoyment.<br />
What has been discussed so far are the wife's rights which are<br />
regarded as the husband's duties towards her. Now we can turn<br />
to the other components <strong>of</strong> the wife's marital role in which her duties<br />
will be at the same time. the husbands rights. The main duty <strong>of</strong> the<br />
wife in Islam as a partner in married life is to contribute to the<br />
happiness and comfort <strong>of</strong> the marriage as well as possible, as the<br />
Qurlan makes clear in this verse:<br />
"And those who pray, "Our Lordl Grant unto us wives<br />
and <strong>of</strong>fspring who will be the comfort <strong>of</strong> our eyes. " 2<br />
The wife must be faithful, virtuous, and honest; she must obey her<br />
; "ý, I<br />
husband in what is right. as the Prophet said, "No obedience is<br />

due to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. " The husband<br />
must be obeyed above anybody else unless this obedience is contrary<br />
to the laws <strong>of</strong> Islam in which case the wife has the full right not to<br />
obey him.<br />
This is the basis on which all the wife's obligations rest and<br />
from which they flow. More specifically, she must not allow any<br />
strange men to enter her home without her husband's knowledge, nor leave<br />

home without his permission. Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet<br />
said., "It was not possible for any woman who believes in Allah to<br />
