Gender may have been a defining element in the formation of tool preferences, and could
have varied by region and culture. This question is not sufficiently addressed in this
study, and the uncertainty of how to analyze gender relations and craft skills is a
noteworthy limitation.
Despite the restrictions and flaws briefly addressed here, the prospective findings
from a remarkably rich dataset are critical for evaluating several fields of study including
metallurgy, craftsmanship, architecture, agriculture, and cross-regional interconnections.
The breadth of this project is challenging and rewarding. Any deductions attained here
delineate a small fraction of the information that may be gleaned from this dataset of
second millennium tools. Future research questions and approaches remain limitless and
no doubt include schemes both more broadly and narrowly conceived than those
attempted here. It is hoped that the current enterprise promotes the scholarly significance
of tools and their promising contribution to an array of specialized fields.
