Distribution: Colombia where it
grows on bare rocks on the
Eastern Cordillera near
Bucaramanga. It has three flowers,
eight inches (20cm) across on long
canes, normally pale pink/purple
with a darker purple lip and pale
gold, red-veined, throat. Named
for Sam Mendel, a rich private
collector who lived at Manley Hall,
Manchester.

Distribution: Brazil. Discovered in
1960, it has two inch (6cm) high
canes, with bright orange red, two
inch (5cm), flowers with a yellow
throat. Originally described as a
Laelia it is named after H. Miller, a
Brazilian geneticist. It enjoys full
sun, which turns the leaves and
pseudobulbs dark red.

Distribution: Venezuela. It has 4 or
more flowers, seven inches (18cm)
across, usually pale pink with
darker lip and golden markings in
the throat, but it is highly variable.
It flowers in the spring after a
winter’s rest. Named for Mrs Moss
of Otterpool, Liverpool, who was
the first to flower it in England.
