history of ancient Egyptian civilisation,<br />

though many things changed, there<br />

was a constancy of certain key concepts<br />

that lasted throughout the whole of<br />

their history. One of these concepts was Maat.<br />

Rosicrucians will be familiar with Maat which<br />

means roughly truth, balance and cosmic order.<br />

As the Indo-Iranian tribes swept south<br />

into Iran and India, they brought with them a<br />

To Rosicrucians, the universe is in a state of<br />

balance and harmony called by mystics "Cosmic<br />

Order," or simply "The Cosmic."<br />

similar concept called Asha in the ancient Persian<br />

religion, Zoroastrianism. Without any known<br />

contact between the Egyptian and Indo-Iranian<br />

civilisations until much later in their history, it is<br />

fascinating to speculate on how they both arrived<br />

at the same concept.<br />

Maat as a Principle of Cosmic Order<br />

Maat does indeed mean truth, but this is too<br />

simple a translation of the Egyptian term. To the
