CHAETOMIUM DELHIANUM SP. N.
K. G. MUKERJI and N. SINGH
Department of Botany
The University of Delhi, Delhi 7, India
SUMMARY
Chaetomium delhianum MUKERJI & SINGH sp. n. has been described.
This is distinct from other known species in possessing very long,
terminal hairs and translucent perithecial wall.
INTRODUCTION
During our studies on Indian coprophilous fungi several members
of Chaetomiales were isolated (SAXENA & MUKERJI 1970, 1972 a, b).
The present paper describes a new species of Chaetomium which
differs from all the existing species in possessing characteristically
long, terminal hairs, translucent perithecial wall and in the size of
its various structures. This species has been named as C. delhianum
after the place of its origin.
So far about 145 species of Chaetomium are known (AMES 1963;
UDAGAwA & CAIN 1969). Identity of many of the newly deseribed
forms is doubtful and they need critical investigation.
