17. Halosphaeria tubulifera KOHLM.<br />

Perithecia up to 0.5 mm in diameter, compressed ellipsoidal with<br />
beak, dark, immersed to partly free. Asci 8-spored (KOHLM. & KOHLM.<br />
1964-69), clavate with nose, unitunicate. Ascospores 2-celled, hyaline,<br />
16-20 X 7-10 p, with stiff terminal appendages bearing slime droplet<br />
which in certain specimens forms a long, thin slime thread (up to<br />
60 X lp as also observed by J. KOHLMEYER (1971). In preparations<br />
the slime thread is often stretched between two spores. The spores<br />
also show a lateral slime band (Fig. ge).<br />
Dften found at the base of the dune and in the gullies. Occasionally<br />
on driftwood of recent erigin.<br />

Perithecia up to 0.2 mm in diameter, globose with warty beak,<br />
hyaline, leathery yellow in colour, darkening, immersed. Asci 8-spored,<br />
clavate, unitunicate, 56-96 X 24-30 p. Ascospores 2-celled, hyaline,<br />
24-28 X 9-11 p , with terminal slime caps (Fig. 9f).<br />
Rare, only one collection found on recently deposited hardwood.<br />
