fusiform, unitunicate, 72-120 X 17-22 u . As cospores 2-celled, hyaline,<br />

with slime spin es around the median septum and with terminal beaks<br />

with veil , 48-52 X 8-9 f.1 (including beaks) (Fig. 3i).<br />

The species is common on driftwood at the base of the dunes and<br />

in gullies, and can be found in crevices in wood recently washed<br />

ashore. Fruit body formation is often considerable on recent drift ­<br />

woo d stored in a humid chamber.<br />

Perithecia about 0.25 mm in diameter, subglobose to globose, with<br />

sh ort beak, crustaceous, black. On sand grains and shelIs in shipworm<br />

galleries and in sand attached to wood, rarely on t he wood itself. Asci<br />

8-spored (KOHLMEYER & KOHLMEYER 1964-69), clavate, fusiform,<br />

unitunicate, 60-64 X 19-23 u . Ascospores 2-celled, hyaline, 26-32 X<br />

8-10 u , with 3 stiff terminal appendages at each end. (Fig.3j).<br />

Common at the base of the dunes, in the gullies, and not uncommonly<br />

in shipworm galleries and crevices in driftwood of recent<br />

origin.<br />
