After several years of thoughtful and<br />
painstaking restoration <strong>Palazzo</strong> <strong>Terranova</strong><br />
was converted into a private country<br />
house hotel with just eight gorgeous<br />
bedrooms, each named after operas and<br />
composers. The style is an effective mix<br />
of Anglo-Italian - original cotto tiles,<br />
wooden beams, Umbrian paintwork and<br />
marble bathrooms combine with antique<br />
furnishings, 16th century paintings and<br />
sculptures and fine British linens. The<br />
overall effect is one of absolute luxury<br />
where old and modern have been cleverly<br />
amalgamated into a luxurious Italian idyll.<br />
With names such as Trovatore and<br />
Bellini, each of the bedrooms enjoys its<br />
own style and character. All are extremely<br />
spacious and airy with the most gorgeous<br />
interiors and fabrics. La Traviata is an<br />
exceptional suite painted corn yellow<br />
and pale green with super king size four<br />
poster bed, adjoining dressing room<br />
and bathroom with hand carved marble<br />
bath whilst La Biblioteca is painted in<br />
medieval manuscript colours of pink and<br />
lilac with hand carved stone fireplace,<br />
C16th carved walnut bookshelves, filled<br />
with historical and classic books and a<br />
small walk on balcony in the bathroom<br />
with wonderful view of the hills. Different<br />
again, and ideal for families, is La<br />
Palazzina Villa which is set below the<br />
<strong>Palazzo</strong> amidst lavender and rosemary<br />
and is equally elegant and luxurious.<br />
Service at <strong>Palazzo</strong> <strong>Terranova</strong> is second<br />
to none. Nothing is too much for the<br />
charming staff at the <strong>Palazzo</strong> who will<br />
tend to guests’ every wish or requirement.<br />
Food and wine at <strong>Terranova</strong> is of prime<br />
importance and any gourmet will cherish<br />
the original and fine dishes using the very<br />
best fresh ingredients that Umbria has<br />
to offer. Olive oil is from the estate, wild<br />
boar and truffles sourced locally and fine<br />
wines carefully selected to complement<br />
the changing seasonal menu. There are<br />
two dining venues – one an atmospheric<br />

other on the terrace by the <strong>Palazzo</strong> with<br />
the view across the valley. A pre dinner<br />
aperitivo of delicious Umbrian wine can<br />
be enjoyed on a comfy sofa on the lawn in<br />
front of the house or, in cooler months, by<br />
the open fire in the cosy bar.<br />

The Spa at <strong>Terranova</strong> is exceptional.<br />
Not the usual busy trendy venue with<br />
noises pervading, instead the Spa here<br />
is complete tranquillity in a room at the<br />
top of the <strong>Palazzo</strong> with a masseur who<br />
is outstanding and cannot be too highly<br />
recommended. For the more energetic the<br />
vast heated swimming pool is set above<br />
the <strong>Palazzo</strong> with fully equipped fitness<br />
centre and there are wonderful walks and<br />
riding to be enjoyed in the surrounding<br />
hills not to mention all the historic places<br />
of interest nearby should one manage to<br />
actually pull oneself away from <strong>Terranova</strong>.<br />
Waking up in the morning at <strong>Palazzo</strong><br />
<strong>Terranova</strong> is a joy! Sun streams through<br />
the windows, the air is clear and the view<br />
is to die for. Breakfast with fresh juice,<br />
pastries, excellent coffee and home made<br />
jam awaits….nowhere could be more<br />
relaxing or rejuvenating.<br />
