Volunteer
Appreciation Mass
In an effort to recognize all of the time, talent and treasure that
volunteers donate to their Church, in this Year of Faith, Bishop
Frank J. Dewane invites ALL VOLUNTEERS throughout the
Diocese of Venice to share in the celebration of Mass with him
so he may express his appreciation and thanks for service.
The Mass for volunteers in Lee and Collier counties will be
held Tuesday, March 5 at Our Lady of Light Parish in
Estero. All volunteers are encouraged to attend this event.
This important Mass provides a "thank you" and formal sign
of appreciation for the volunteers of our parishes and those
throughout the Diocese. Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m.
and will be followed by a reception in the parish hall.

a Communal Penance
Service on
March 13, 2013 at 6:30pm
Priests from the area will be
available to hear confessions
in English, Polish and
Spanish.
O ur Religious Library, located
off the hallway in the Activity
Building, has available many
full bookcases where you can select
materials for your faith and spiritual
enrichment. Just take a book, and
return it at your convenience. There
is no need to check it out. We welcome
donations of Catholic religious
books; just leave them on the desk
in the library.

Lenten Observations
An additional weekday Mass will be
celebrated Monday-Friday at 12 noon.
The Stations with Mary the Mother of Jesus
will be prayed every Friday after the 8 am Mass
in the Church.
Traditional Stations of the Cross will be
prayed every Friday in the Church at 3 pm.
Throughout the Diocese of Venice churches
will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation
on Fridays from 5-7 pm and Saturday from
9-11 am. A communal Penance service will also
be celebrated on March 13 at 6:30pm.
A Lenten Parish Mission will be held March
9-12 by Rev. Michael Monshau from the Pontifical
University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence
Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2013 and Good
Friday, March 29, 2013 are days of fast and
abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of
abstinence.
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of
18 years and 59 years (inclusive). On a fast day
one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals,
sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken
according to each one’s needs, but together they
should not equal another full meal. Eating
between in not permitted, but liquids are allowed.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all
Catholics who are 14 years of age and older.
Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent
(and Good Friday) are days of abstinence.
Note: if a person is unable to observe the above
regulations due to ill health or other serious
reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of
self-denial that are suitable to their condition.

on Sundays after the
9:30am Mass in the
Activities Building.
