fellowship, and to continue on your spiritual path among old and new friends. Throughout the retreat our very
own Reverend Martha Wingfield will be presenting Oh, the Stories They Could Have Told: The Women
Around Jesus. The cost will be $125 per person which includes lodging and meals. Look for the sign up table
in between services today. After today please contact Jana Severson at jseverson@ucsd.edu or 760. 944.7452
to signup.
EASTER LILIES: We ask for your help in providing the Easter Lily plants to decorate our sanctuary this Easter.
Lilies are $15 each and orders are now being taken. Please stop by the lily table in Founders Hall or on the
playground between services today. Lilies can be picked up after the 10:45 am service on Easter Sunday or
delivered to a homebound member.
EASTER BUTTERFLIES: We will again be celebrating Easter by releasing butterflies for their first flight after
each worship service. Butterflies can be reserved for a $5.00 donation between services in Founders Hall and
in the playground area. Proceeds from this event help support Children and Family Ministry events such as
Vacation Bible School, Elementary Summer Camps and our annual All Church Retreat.
PALM SUNDAY PANCAKE BREAKFAST: The youth will once again be putting on our annual Palm Sunday
Pancake Breakfast today. Join us in Founders Hall from 8:15 – 11:00 am for food and fellowship. Suggested
donations of $10 per adult and $5 per child help support Sierra Service Project.
PEANUT BUTTER SUNDAY is today. Put your canned fruit for the Community Resource Center food bank in
the collection box inside the door to Founders Hall. Thank you from the Church and Society Committee for
your support of needy families in our community.
PALM SUNDAY GUEST ORGANIST: 16 year old Thomas Mellon will be playing the postlude during both
services today. Thomas is extremely gifted at the keyboard. He currently studies with Chris Cook and Cherry
Rhodes, concert artists. The San Diego American Guild of Organists has a program where young organists are
invited to play either the prelude or postlude, and we are fortunate to have Thomas perform at our church.
Please extend your welcome to this young musician and enjoy!
Many people have asked about the new stops on the organ. The new pedal ranks on the right side give the
correct kind of bass sound for both soft music and are a wonderful addition for the fuller sounds in the
organ. Two new ranks will be added to the left side in the next couple of months.
PALM SUNDAY CONCERT: Today at 3 pm in the Sanctuary, please plan to attend a performance of Handel’s
MESSIAH, presented by the Chancel Choir, Orchestra, and fine soloists. William Hatcher will conduct. The
latter part of this bestknown and loved choral work in history is known as the “Easter Portion”, which through
symbolism describes the passion and sacrifice of Christ, and finally grand hymns of thanksgiving for the
overthrow of death. Such great solos as “I Know My Redeemer Liveth” and choruses such as “Since by Man
came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead” are found in this powerful and timeless music. A
free will offering will be taken to defray expenses of the concert and support the music program of the church.
