Section III : Risk Assessment Analysis
• Out of the 13 hazardous industries, two Factories are classified as Major Accident
Hazardous (MAH) Factories prescribed under Maharashtra Factories (Control of
Industrial Major Accident Hazardous) Rules 2003 i.e.
a) Samartha Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Ankushnagar, Tq. Ambad &
The principal activity of the plant is the production of industrial alcohol from Molasses.
The industrial alcohol is highly inflammable and hence the storage and processing of
industrial alcohol is hazardous.
b) Mittal Petrochemicals Pvt.Ltd., Borkhedi, Tq. Dist. Jalna.
The principal activity is L.P.G. Bottling
• Majority of the Chemical Factories are situated in M.I.D.C. Jalna
• One of the Factories is handling a toxic chemicals (Pestisides) & most of the others are
handling inflammable chemicals.
• In the factories handling inflammable chemicals a suitable fire fighting arrangements
such as fire hydrant system & portable fire extinguishers.
• Also there are well equipped first aid facility with personal protective equipment in the
factory premises such as Masks, Hand Gloves, Oxygen Masks, Air respirators, Air
separators, etc.
• In case of poisoning, antidote treatment is provided and available in the factory.
• Layout of the plan is available which is useful in the case of an emergency.
• The fire fighting equipments are available from Jalna fire brigade station, which is the
nearest fire station.
• The factory officials explained that in emergency periods, the immediate response of all
services is necessary.
• There is a serious need of fire fighting equipment with Ambad town, since they have no
fire brigade and the nearest fire station is at Jalna which is 30-35 kms. away from
Ambad.
