3.2.5 Epidemics<br />

Section III : Risk Assessment Analysis<br />

• The <strong>district</strong> administration ranks epidemics as the third priority as compared<br />

to other <strong>disaster</strong>s. The District Health Officer (DHO) Z.P. stated that 23<br />

outbreaks occurred in the last 3 years.i.e.Year2009- 2011. The total number<br />

of deaths due to these outbreaks is 6.<br />

• According to the definition of epidemic outbreaks in the <strong>district</strong>, the District<br />

Health Officer and Civil Surgeon stated that the type of outbreaks which<br />

occurred in Jalna <strong>district</strong> are mainly Gastro Enteritis, Cholera , Typhoid ,<br />

inf. Hepatitis and viral fever.<br />

• The main reason of epidemic outbreak is infected drinking water and<br />

leakages of water supply pipes. According to the Medical authorities of the<br />

<strong>district</strong>, the <strong>district</strong> administration has been able to sufficiently tackle these<br />

outbreaks.<br />

• According to previous case histories, the Health department (DHO, Z.P.)<br />

has analyzed the tahsilwise villages vulnerable to epidemics.<br />

• District Health Officer, Zilla Parishad, Jalna has stated that the villages<br />

which are vulnerable to epidemics are as under :In rural areas, there is 1<br />

PHC for every 30,000 people. Each primary health center 1 Sub Center for<br />

5000 papulation has one male and one female health worker. They are<br />

provided with necessary medicine and equipment to tackle day to day<br />

demands.The Health Dept. of Zilla Parishad has their own epidemic survey<br />

team which maintains the Case Histories of outbreaks and takes the<br />

necessary actions to tackle the epidemics. Training has been provided to all<br />

Gram Panchayats for treatment of potable water. Bleaching powder is used<br />

to purify the water. Health education and awareness campaigns are being<br />

carried out at village levels by DHO, Jalna.There are 8 Laboratory for water<br />

testing. The details of Pathological laboratories, Blood banks and other<br />

health services are given in Government and Pvt. Sector Resources.<br />
