3.2.3 Fires
Section III : Risk Assessment Analysis
• There are six industrial zones in the district and various types of industries are
located in Jalna district. In Jalna district Chemical industries, Spinning mills, Oil
and Dal mills, Sugar factories and some factories of paper products are located,
which are vulnerable to fires .
• The district administration has ranked fire at fourth position on the basis of past
occurrences and has indicated a medium probability of future occurrences.
According to Fire officer of Fire Brigade Jalna, major fires were experienced at the
cotton purchase centres and medium fires were experienced at cattle sheds, huts, hay
stacks, oil mills, saw mills and Godowns. In the last 15 years there were 600 fire
cases in the district. In the last 15 years there have been no deaths due to these fire
episodes but total loss due to fire is Rs. 2,92,85,011/-
• The Fire officer, Jalna has stated that out of 4 Municipal Councils, only Jalna
Municipal Council has 2 fire fighting machines. The district administration has
recommended that one fire machine may be given at Partur town which will enable
the authorities to tackle the fires in the other parts of the district more effectively.
According to the past experience, hazardous fire cases have occurred in the urban
areas of the Jalna district.
