3.2.2 Earthquakes
• As compared to other disasters, earthquake is the most disastrous of all natural
calamities. The district administration is more conscious about it. The mild shock of
the Marathwada earthquake in 1993 prompted the district administration to identify
the weak zone prone areas or lineament prone villages at the district.
• Due to the lack of seismic instruments, the administration has not studied the
vulnerability of villages to a possible earthquake. According to lineament map of the
district, the Sr. Geologist of GSDA, Jalna has analyzed tahsilwise villages, which are
vulnerable to earthquake. However, a detailed scientific study of lineaments of
earthquake - prone villages is required to be done.
