3. RISK ASSESSMENT AND VULNERABILITY ANALYSIS
3.1 Economic, Occupational, Social and Educational Profile of the
Population
3.1.1 Economy
• The total area of the Jalna district is 7618 Sq. Kms. constituting 2.51 % of the total
state.
• Jalna is the largest Tahsil covering an area of 1,221 sq.Kms. while Jafarabad tahsil is
the smallest tahsil with an area of 737 Sq. Kms.
• Physical features and the land use pattern indicate that the agriculture is the mainstay
of the economy of Jalna district. The agricultural area of district is 649352 Hectare.
i.e. Agricultural area of the district is more than 84.51 % of the total area of district
• The major crop of Jalna district are Jawar, Tur, Sunflower, Gram and Ground nut.
• Major plantations are of Sweet Lemon.
• Forest area of Jalna district is very small i.e. 12600 Hectares. Area only.
• The total population of Jalna district according to 2001 Census is 16.12 Lakhs which
is 1.67 % of the total population of the state.
• The population living in rural areas constitute 80.93 % while urban population
constitute 19.07 % of the total population.
• The male population is 51.23% , while female population is 48.77 %.
