5.2.3.5 Epidemics
Section V: Mitigation Strategy
• Past Case Histories on epidemics show that outbreaks occur due to infected water and bad
sewage systems. So the frequent checking of important water supply lines and plugging
the supply pipe leakage is necessary. Improvement in sewage system of urban as well as
rural areas of the district is necessary.
• The district administration will take strict action against the water pollution.
• The Health Department of the district takes necessary actions in epidemic prone villages
of the district.
• Water quality monitoring should be strictly enforced in all Gram Panchayats for
improving the water supply schemes.
• Bleaching Powder should be adequately available with all Gram Panchayats.
• The Rural Hospitals and PHCs should be upgraded to include blood bank and surgical
facilities.
• Public awareness programs must be undertaken to avoid epidemics in epidemic prone
areas of the district.
• There is only one lab for water quality testing in the district, which is not sufficient. So it
is essential to install at least one lab in each M.C. area of Jalna district.
5.2.3.6 Industrial and Chemical Accidents
• The emergency plan with individual units is not sufficient when the disaster occurred is
on large scale and as such Mutual Aid Response Groups approach should be followed and
put to practical use during emergency situations.
• The Hazardous industries in the district should update the plans and modify the plans
frequently and it must be monitored and checked by Joint Director, Industrial Safety and
Health.
• Strict restriction of settlement of the people living in the areas which have proximity
to hazardous industrial activity such as quarrying, chemical plants etc. must be
followed.
