5.2.3 Disaster Specific Mitigation Measures suggested
5.2.3.1 Earthquake
Section V: Mitigation Strategy
• Educationally Jalna district is backward and most people are illiterate about earthquakes.
The training on awareness of earthquakes is necessary.
• All the weak and less durable infrastructures of the district must be surveyed and those
found old and very weak should be retrofitted or reconstructed as per zone IV norm.
• The 4 Municipal Councils of the district and Village Panchayats have to be suitably
empowered to enforce zone IV regulation.
• All the Government Officials who are responsible for implementing the rules, regulations
and building codes must be adequately trained in this respect.
• At least one workshop must be arranged every year at district head quarter with College
Students, Volunteers and NGOs on this subject under the Chairmanship of Collector.
• According to Sr. Geologist, G.S.D.A., the scientific study of weak zones, lineaments of
the district is very essential.
5.2.3.2 Floods
• Floods occur due to the heavy rain and up till now the flood affected people are not
shifted to the safe area. That is the main problem of the district administration. Strict
implementation of anti-encroachment regulations on river banks is very important to
disaster mitigation.
• The requirement of 8 additional wireless sets is essential as per the Minor Irrigation and
Flood Control Plan.
• According to the past experience most of the floods have occurred due to the heavy rain
and release of extra water from the dams . So the long term solution of this must be found
by all the related Govt. agencies.
