Expansion
Getting Capital Results in the Capitol
Results, The Gym is expanding once again in its
hometown of Washington, D.C. Owner Doug Jefferies
recently opened a third location there—a two-level,
25,000-square-foot club that offers cardiovascular
machines with personal DirecTV screens and a
training pool. Meanwhile, Jefferies, who opened
his first Results, The Gym facility in 1996, has just
signed a lease for his fourth D.C. location. —|
Retrofitness Moves Forward
at Rapid Rate
Retro’s cardio
Retrofitness, a workout destination that transports
exercisers back to the 1980s, recently hit the 60-unit
mark—after only one year of franchising. The
company is now on track to open 450 additional
centers in the next three years.
While this unique club model offers a fun
“flashback”—with such features as retro-style
color schemes and classic pop-culture 80s music—
it is anything but behind the times with respect to
its equipment. One of its signature elements is a
“RetroTheatre,” a state-of-the-art cinema where
members can burn calories on the latest treadmills,
recumbent bikes, and elliptical trainers while watching
such popular ’80s flicks as Sixteen Candles and Ferris
Bueller’s Day Off. Retrofitness also offers a full
collection of more than 50 top-of-the-line strength
and cardio machines, complete with individual LCD
TV monitors. “People forget that they are working
out because they are having such a good time just
being in one of our gyms,” says Eric Casaburi, the
chain’s founder.
Retrofitness franchises range in size from
10,000 to 15,000 square feet. —|
