ClubCorp Event Supports Multiple Charities
Nieto, l., and Affeldt
What better way to celebrate a half-century serving others than with the
largest-ever charity event in your company’s history? Held this past October,
the ClubCorp Charity Classic, a company-wide day of fundraising events,
raised $1.6 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Augie’s Quest,
the PGA Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Club Corp’s
Employee Partners Care Foundation. Throughout the day, Dallas-based
ClubCorp’s 150-plus private clubs opened their doors for dinners, live
auctions, tennis and golf tournaments, and fitness activities.
“For the past 50 years, ClubCorp has been in the business of building
relationships and enriching lives, but never more so than this past October,”
observes Eric Affeldt, the company’s president and CEO. “I am so proud of
our clubs, our employee partners, and our members, and how they came
together to provide extraordinary and unique experiences for those in their
communities while also raising money for four very worthy causes.” —|
American Family Fitness Shows Its Heart
A good corporate citizen helps its community grow and thrive as it does.
When the seven-facility American Family Fitness chain, headquartered in
Richmond, Virginia, built its latest 90,000-square-foot West End club, the
company shared its good fortune with the local Henrico County Schools.
A portion of membership sales was earmarked for a donation of $1,200,
enabling the Henrico County Health and Physical Education program to
purchase heart-rate monitors for use in alternative physical education
courses for its special needs students.
“Henrico County Public Schools is most appreciative of this donation by
American Family Fitness,” says Bonnie Conner-Gray, educational specialist
for health and physical education for Henrico County Public Schools. “Without
the partnership and support of local fitness centers, the students in most need
would not have this curricular advantage. Students will be able to develop
a positive relationship between the local fitness and wellness centers,
which will carry over into adulthood.” —|
Just for UK Kids
To help stem the tide of childhood obesity in Europe,
two new youth-specific club companies have recently
debuted in the U.K.—SHOKK énergie, a new franchise
model for kids ages 5-15 that’s a collaboration
between the énergie Group and SHOKK; and
t2, a club in Northampton for 7-16-year-olds.
SHOKK énergie is based on the SHOKK youth
fitness model, which is already in place in some
120 U.K. clubs and eight international locations.
The new model will be rolled out using the énergie
franchise platform.
t2 will help build its membership base through
local physician referrals. The club will offer a range
of physical activities for kids using such equipment
as arcade-style dance platforms, a boxing zone,
an indoor mountain bike studio, as well as advice
on nutrition and lifestyle. —|
