SUlIlfltdry11MConclU.non Conclusions 1- Haemoptysis, chest pain and fever were the symptoms urging the patient to seek medical advise rapidly in comparison to other symptoms. 2- Haemoptysis in middle age group, dyspnea, anorexia and night sweating in elderly age group and expectoration in both middle and elderly age group were statistically significant symptoms among sputum +ve cases for AFB in relation to age groups. 3- Specificity ofcommon respiratory symptoms are as follow: Chest pain 71%, Haemptysis 59.4%, dyspnea 53.1%, expectoration 50% and cough 37.5% 4- Specificity of common general symptoms are as follow: Anorexia 75%, weight loss 65.6%, night sweat 59.4% and fever 46.6%. ..,.--- 5- Sensitivity ofcommon respiratory symptoms proved to be : Cough 97.4%, expectoration 87%, haemptysis 51.9%, dyspnea 50% and chest pain 34.4%. 6- Sensitivity of common general symptoms are:- Fever 60.4%, weight loss 51.9%, night sweat 40.3% and anorexia 27.3% 7- In an Egyptian community Cough dry or productive, haemoptysis, dyspnea, weight loss and fever among smokers were highly suggestive of pulmonary tuberculosis. This statement holds more good when TB like picture and +ve tuberculin test are present. 115
