glory. The weakness of those who, not knowing that Christ is God, desired to make a nearer approach<br />
to him, was endured for a time. Now that he fills heaven and earth with the sweet savor of his grace,<br />
we must embrace—not with hands or eyes, but by faith—the salvati<strong>on</strong> which he offers to us from<br />
heaven.<br />

1. Then scribes and Pharisees, who had come 1. And the Pharisees, and some of the scribes,<br />
from Jerusalem, approach to Jesus, saying, who had come from Jerusalem, assemble to him.<br />
2. Why do thy disciples transgress the traditi<strong>on</strong> 2. And when they saw some of his disciples eat<br />
of the elders? for they wash not their hands when bread with comm<strong>on</strong>, that is to say, with unwashen<br />

gift from me shall profit thee; and shall not h<strong>on</strong>or brazen vessels, and beds. 5. Then the Pharisees<br />
his father or his mother. 6. Therefore you have and scribes ask him, saying, Why do not thy<br />
annulled the commandment of God <strong>on</strong> account disciples walk according to the traditi<strong>on</strong> of the<br />
of your traditi<strong>on</strong>. 7. Hypocrites, Isaiah hath justly elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?<br />
prophesied c<strong>on</strong>cerning you, saying, 8. This 6. And he answering said to them, Well hath<br />
people draw nigh to me with their mouth, and Isaiah prophesied c<strong>on</strong>cerning you hypocrites, as<br />
h<strong>on</strong>or me with the lips; but their heart is far it is written, This people h<strong>on</strong>or me with the lips,<br />
distant from me. 9. But in vain do they worship but their heart is far from me. 7. But in vain do<br />
me, teaching doctrines, commandments of men. they worship me, teaching doctrines,<br />
commandments of men. 8. For, laying aside the<br />
commandments of God, you keep a traditi<strong>on</strong> of<br />
men, the washings of pots and cups, and many<br />
other things similar to these you do. 9. And he<br />
said to them, Well do you reject the<br />
commandment of God, that you may keep your<br />
own traditi<strong>on</strong>. 10. For Moses said, H<strong>on</strong>or thy<br />
father and mother; and, He that curseth father or<br />
