The Best Brazilian
Organics Producers
are Here
Organics Brasil is the brand name of
a project that brings together a wide
range of Brazilian Certified Organics
Producers and promotes them in
international markets.
Brazil is the country with the planet’s
most varied biodiversity, and is also
one of the most important producers
in many food categories and raw
materials. For this reason Brazil is
considered a kind of “world farm”
and its huge and natural organic
products potential is now reaching
major markets.
Promoting and profiting from this
very complex nature – a variety of
organic products from different
Brazilian soils and conditions –
Organics Brasil is a commercial effort
undertaken by private institutions
spearheaded by IPD (Development
Promotion Institute) and Apex-Brasil
(Brazilian Trade and Investment
Promotion Agency).
Under this brand you will certainly
find the best in Brazilian organic
production and be sure of buying
quality Brazilian organics.
Producers have been promoting
their products in the global market,
since 2005, through three business
channels: this brochure, its Internet
portal, and exhibition stands in the
industry’s principal global trade
shows.
Read this brochure and learn more
about us through our sales channels.
It will be great to increase our
common commitment to change the
world into a more sustainable place.
For Those in Love with the Taste of Quality Organic Coffee
Fazenda Sertãozinho is at the heart of the Mogiana region, in São Paulo, a place
renowned in Brazil and abroad for the production of some of the world’s best
coffees. Coffee trees are planted on the mountain slopes at altitudes that range
from 2,900 to 3,000 feet (900 to 1,000 meters).
In 2003, Fazenda Sertãozinho ranked among the TOP 5 in two categories - natural
and pulped natural - in a São Paulo State contest. In 2004, its pulped naturals were
among the TOP 60 (out of 815) samples in the Cup of Excellence 2004 contest. The
farm has been in the Barretto family for three generations, since 1895. The farm is
organically certified by IBD for both the domestic and the foreign markets (USDA).
A large number of varieties ranging from the traditional Yellow Bourbon and Mundo
Novo to the modern Obatã, Catucai and Acaia can be found in older plantations as
well as in newer ones. Fazenda Sertãozinho is strongly committed to environmental
and social responsibility.
All of the water used on the farm comes from its own springs, and a large area
covered with native trees is preserved. The farm has recently signed an agreement
with the Regional University (Pinhal) to plant 21,000 new native trees.
Kiwi Fruit (Actinidia chinensis) - Bruno Variety - Green Pulp
Originally from China, this variety found a favorable climate and adaptability in
the State of Santa Catarina (Brazilian southern plateaus), with harvest occurring
in May. The fruit is ecologically grown on a small farm named Valley of the Tiger,
in a pioneering project, certified by IFOAM, EUREPGAP, and USDA.
The project started in 1993, with the acquisition of a small plot of native grassland,
with the purpose of planting kiwi. The orchard is new, with nine years of growth,
and five years of production. Last year, the biodynamic handling method was
implemented with the help of consulting services provided by ABD - Brazilian
Biodynamic Association.
“Under the light of anthroposophic nutritional science, the roots are related to the
neuro-sensorial system of humans, the leaves to the cardio-pulmonary rhythmic
system, and the fruits to the metabolic-engine system... Men living in large urban
centers are looking for substitutes to physical activity by weight-lifting in fitness
centers. Within a holistic context, this represents exhaustion. Mechanic weight-lifting
creates mental emptiness that kiwi consumption may be able to fill up (...) a good
reason for cultivating kiwi, perhaps also a way of achieving a certain balance for the
excessive consumption of soybean...”
Tribal Brasil - Mate factor is a company run by people who wish to restore ancient
lifestyles that most cultures have lost thanks to the development of modern-day
conveniences. People have forgotten the meaning of living a “tribal” way of life,
cultivating the land in harmony with nature and with their fellow human beings.
In the past, man was obliged to live off of what he could manually produce and the
surplus he would trade for what used to be called a “convenience”. Today, most people
don’t realize how much labor is involved so that products can travel around the planet
to be in their home in a short period of time. These are unprecedented times in history,
something not to be taken for granted…
We wish to bring you products manufactured with the following in mind: appreciation
for every man’s work; preservation of regional traditions and resources; everything seen
through a natural lens. We chose to live a simpler life, living off of our land, and trading
what we produce for something worth the fruit of our labor. Our lifestyle led us to our
living together; we live in tribes, in several parts of the planet, sharing our lives with
one another and living for our common purpose, which is far more than just trading…
The tribes we live in do not live in isolation from each other; we all live under the
same denomination, even if living far apart. We share a common life. We live together,
work together, laugh together, and struggle together. This lifestyle produces something
that nothing else can - the fruit of unity. From everywhere we live come one of a kind
products. Surely, our products are not the only ones of their kind, but the truth is that
what you get when you order from Tribal Brasil - Mate factor, you cannot get anywhere
else. For the fruit of one’s work, the work of one’s hands, come only from what is in one’s
heart. And what is in our hearts is love for one another, just like the Creator of
this world’s love for us.
Organic Farm Eggs
Production System - The birds are raised out of confinement, in a semi-open
environment, with plenty of foraging area, which ensures their well-being.
They can profit from the first sun rays all the way through the late afternoon’s
damp grass, a freedom that enables them to, without any stress, produce savory
organic eggs. The eggs are laid by small lots of hens, which allow farmers to pay
more attention and provide greater care to the birds they are raising.
The quality feed given to the birds is made from prime quality organic ingredients,
resulting in exceptional nutritional egg content, considering that everything a
hen consumes is transferred to the eggs. Consumer food safety is secured through
thorough sanitation care.
Social Responsibility - The eggs are produced in small, family farms,
located in the backlands of the state of Paraná, with the object of generating
extra income and enhancing the quality of life of farmers, affording them
stability in their places of origin.
The Production Concept aims at achieving good
ecological balance on the
property, high bio-safety
level and high
quality nutrition
for the hens,
translating into
healthier and naturally
Created in 2002, the Fruto da Terra association
of small farmers currently includes 50 families
working inside an environmental preservation
area located in the municipalities of Antonina
and Guaraqueçaba, in the state of Paraná,
southern Brazil. Because they are busy all
year round, farmers no longer destroy the
forest by cutting down trees and palmetto
palms. Banana trees are now planted inside
the forest and allow farmers to generate
enough income for a better life.
Fruto da Terra’s banana processing plant processes about 160 tons of in natura
bananas a year. The yield corresponds to about 10% of the fruit received.
The banana used is of the local caturra variety, with 79% of the production being for
exports, particularly Switzerland.
In 1984, Mr. Agenor Sartori Castagna started his activities as a beekeeper
with his own apiary with 1,200 bee-hives in Içara, State of Santa Catarina,
in southern Brazil. In 1989, with a view to expanding his business, he founded
the Minamel Company.
With prestige and confidence acquired over
the years, and a brand consolidated on the
domestic market, Minamel started marketing
its products in other countries, too.
So, on November 2nd, 2000, the Minamel
Company exported its first honey container
to Germany, thus becoming the pioneer
honey exportater in Brazil.
In 2001, after exporting 1,500 ton of honey,
Minamel earned the title of “The Largest Honey Exporter in Brazil”.
Today, the company has increased its facilities to 2,044 sq m of working area,
doubling its honey production to 4,800 ton/year. Strong partnerships with several
beekeepers assure an excellent raw material supply capable of meeting the demand
of both the domestic and foreign markets (England, United States, Germany,
the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, and Austria).
In 2002, Minamel implemented the Organic Products Project with help from
IMO - Institute for Market Ecology from Switzerland, a certifying institution.
After one year of project implementation and product conversion, in 2003 the
company started exporting certified organic honey, the result of an integrated
system formed by Minamel and other beekeepers. Currently, the company’s organic
project is one of Brazil’s largest, including 35 cities in Santa Catarina State and
3 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. 88 beekeepers are certified by IMO and
together they own 50,050 beehives, producing 1,800 tons of honey a year.
Owing to highly diversified tropical forests, coastal regions,
and plateaus featuring altitudes of up to 1,360 meters,
our producers can count on an enormous variety of flowers,
flavors, and honey scents, thus being able to fulfill the
quality standards demanded by both national and
international markets.
History
In Toledo, in western Paraná (a southern Brazil
state), the Uenishi family makes full use of the
environment and natural resources to benefit
human health. In 1997, they started growing
their own yerba mate - different from native
yerba mate for being more nutritious, thanks
to more direct sunlight exposure.
Manufacturing
In 2003, based on organic methodologies,
Mr. Uenishi invested in a manufacturing facility
to ensure the preservation of the yerba mate’s
natural properties after it is harvested, processed,
and packaged for consumption. The entire process
takes place under strict control, using a pioneer
cold chambers system, the first of its kind in Brazil,
and special handling and vacuum packaging
systems. This 30-ton processing capacity system
received certification in 2005, and now Uenishi is
ready to enter the international market.
Products
Our products are all stored in cold chambers and are vacuum packed to maintain
their original quality. Our yerba mate undergoes a unique processing method,
since our product is used in the preparation of green yerba mate iced tea, for easy
and fast consumption. It can also be drunk hot, in the traditional way, if preferred.
Our products come in the following packaging sizes:
• Green organic matte tea, for iced tea, filtered and vacuum packed,
in 500g and 250g packages.
• Green organic matte tea, sachets, for cold water use.
• Green organic matte tea, instant powder (extract), for cold water mixing.
History
Morretes is located in southern Brazil, 80 km from Curitiba (the capital of the State
of Paraná). It is a lovely and peaceful historical village, where the genuine Brazilian
cachaça has been produced since the 1700s. Its origin in this region is verified by
the entry “cachaça” in the official Brazilian language dictionary where the term
“Morretiana” is given as a synonym. The local environment could not be better.
Right at the foot of Marumbi Peak, in the most preserved region of the extraordinary
Atlantic Rainforest, it is a magical, story-filled place.
Raw Materials and the Art of Production
The hot and damp microclimate of Morretes, in the state’s coastal area, favors the
growth of a unique type of sugar cane that grows surrounded by an abundance
of native woods. The process starts with the extraction of the Garapa, the sugar
cane juice that is fermented with natural yeast, according to the homemade yeast
tradition, with no chemicals added.
The process takes place in stainless
steel vats under controlled
temperature, under the special care
of vigilant people. The fermented
liquid is then distilled in copper
stills, breaking down the beverage
and separating “head” and “tail”.
The Porto Morretes Cachaça is
literally made from the “heart”,
the noble part of the sugar cane.
Products
Pure hearted, the home-produced Porto Morretes Cachaça, is made in the white
version and the aged version, in different sizes and ready to be consumed in
individual bottles. The Home Produced White Cachaça Porto Morretes preserves the
virtues of the recently distilled drink. It is the ideal cachaça to prepare the traditional
Brazilian Caipirinha. The Home Produced Aged Cachaça is stored in oak barrels in
order to reach a perfect balance between the oxygenation of the beverage and
transfer of the oak barrel qualities to its body. The aging grants personality to the
product. The cachaça then harmonizes color, scent and flavor. It is the ideal cachaça
in color, scent and flavor, to be enjoyed straight or on the rocks.
Suframa - Manaus Free Trade Zone Superintendence, a federal agency linked to the
Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), operates as an
agency for promoting sustainable regional development. In order to do so, it aims at
identifying economic alternatives and attract business enterprises that might lead to
the creation of jobs and income generation in the area under its control: the states of
Acre, Amazonas, Rondônia, and Roraima - which make up the Western Amazon Region
- and the municipalities of Macapá and Santana, in the state of Amapá.
The sustainable development policy pursued by Suframa aims to foster the regional
potential of western Amazon and Amapá and transform it into business opportunities.
The agency provides funds for support projects in infrastructure and production
improvement, research and development, and for training human resources in the
region. One of the most recent and critical projects is the “Revitalization of the Açaí
Productive Chain”, developed in the municipality of Codajás, in the State of Amazonas.
Codajás: Açaí Country
Codajás is located 290 km from Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas, it
occupies an area of 20,010 km 2 , and is characterized by hot, damp climate.
Açaí from Codajás is a very important dietary ingredient for the region’s population.
In addition to having a delicious, refreshing flavor, it features valuable nutritional
properties such as proteins, fibers, carbohydrates, lipids, minerals, vitamins A, C, E and
B1 (thiamine), niacin, riboflavin and iron - recommended in the treatment of anemia
and muscle strengthening. The high level of anthocyanin pigments found in açaí is
recommended for cholesterol control. It also helps blood circulation and improves
intestinal functions.
The grapes used in making our juice come from small properties
inspected by technicians specialized in organic
farming, and certified by Ecocert/Brazil.
All Econatura grape juices bear the name
“uva’ Só”, Portuguese for “grapes only.”
Uva’Só is made through a process created
by the company with the purpose
of producing 100% natural fruit
juice from 100% whole fruit, with
no chemical conservatives, water,
or sucrose added.
The entire farming process is ecologically driven.
The color is very intense because Bordeaux
grapes, also known as Ives grapes, are used
for making the juice.
These grapes have a high concentration of
antioxidants, currant, and purple pigments
found in their peels. The content
ratio found in the juice is 0.22g to
0.43g per 870ml bottle.
The juice is very rich in nutrients,
with a healthy effect on the arteries
by increasing “good” cholesterol
(HDL) levels, and a positive impact
on free radicals, besides many
other benefits.
Project Green Cane is an agricultural production model developed with the purpose
of achieving harmonious co-existence between the economic activity and nature,
preserving and fostering biodiversity, tapping into its richness to produce food for a
growing world. Native is the consequence - not the goal - of the world’s largest existing
organic agricultural project that began in 1986 with the main purpose of developing
a self-sustainable sugar cane production system, transforming the whole production
process into organic agriculture.
Native Organic Sugar - Each Native sugar crystal is the purest and healthiest essence
of the raw sugar cane nectar. It has been green harvested, a process which does not burn
the plant. Native Sugar is found in two versions:
• 1 or 5 kg packages of White Sugar to be used instead of refined
or crystal sugar for cooking;
• 1 or 5 kg packages of Golden Sugar (demerara) for those special touches
in syrups, cakes, desserts and hot drinks.
Also available in 50-60g green packet packages.
Native Demeter Sugar - In order to produce Demeter Sugar, Native has
implemented Biodynamic Agriculture in specific organic sugar cane crops.
Native Chocolate Powder (400g packages) is made of generous portions
of organic cocoa from Bahia (a Northeastern Brazilian State).
Native Organic Coffee is of the purest Arabica bean type. It brings out the pleasure
of a mild, slightly acidic, consistent and balanced, tasteful cup of coffee.
Native Organic Orange Juice is extracted from the best quality oranges
harvested at the peak of ripeness.
areas involved are subject to the Regulatory Directive 07/99 of the Brazilian Ministry
of Agriculture, to the CEE 2092/91 Regulation, and to the USDA National Organic
The area reserved for the fruit trees presents maximum insulation year round,
which promotes a greater yield and, at the same time, presents an unfavorable
environment for pests and plant pathogens. The plant lines follow the land level,
Solo Natural de Ipirá (Natural Soil of Ipirá)
What it is
It is a natural compost (enriched and organic weathered
rock flour - regolith) comprised of several minerals of
agricultural interest that have changed over millions
of years, part of which is immediately available (slowly
solubilizing in water) to plants, while the remainder is still
undergoing different weathering stages and solubilizing
in interaction with organic matter found in the soil.
Importance
The need to produce food in an ever increasing scale has led man to look for higher
production levels through the use of chemical fertilizers. Their ongoing use, however,
has resulted in unbalance causing the appearance of pests and diseases which, in turn,
started being eliminated with pesticides. However, the soil no longer responds to the high
dosages of fertilizers recommended, thus turning agriculture into a non-cost-effective
process that produces nutritionally unbalanced food with high toxic residual content.
With Solo Natural de Ipirá the natural mineral balance of the soil will improve without
any damage to the environment, providing balanced nutrition and low costs, making it
possible even to correct grazing soils.
How it works
Because it is a natural mineral compound, it enriches the soil’s inorganic portion,
which through solubilization gradually frees nutrients to the plants without any
damage to the environment. It is important to keep in mind that, because it is at
different weathering stages, Solo Natural de Ipirá is being slowly “metabolized”
by the organic acids solubilizing the soil, thus increasing the residual action.
Advantages of Solo Natural do Ipirá
• Natural mineral components;
• Microbiological soil balance;
• Increased cation exchange capability;
• Immediate use;
• Prolonged action;
• Higher productivity;
• Fit for mechanized distribution.
Our tradition - your pleasure.
Cachaça Gabriela offers quality from the
beginning to the end of the production
process - from the planting of the sugar
cane to the bottling of the drink.
Everything is done with care in order to
produce the highest-quality cachaça for
the most demanding palates.
The production process is carried out
at the Santa Esilia Farm, located in Bonfim
Paulista, near Ribeirão Preto, in the state
of São Paulo, Brazil. The farm follows
principles to be totally integrated with the
environment. Plants are grown without any
kind of chemical products, providing
the sugar cane with full organic status,
certified by Ecocert.
The sugar cane from which Cachaça Gabriela
is made is planted and harvested manually.
During its growth all grass weeds are hand
trimmed to avoid normal cane burning.
During processing, when the sugar cane becomes cane juice, fermentation is
achieved by using corn yeast, also a natural ingredient, without speeding the
process in any way.
Distilled in copper vats, Cachaça Gabriela Silver rests for two years
in wooden barrels made of Brazilian Jequitibá-rosa that
keep its superb natural and characteristic flavor.
Cachaça Gabriela Gold rests for two years in wooden
barrels made of Brazilian Imburana that helps create its
unrivaled color and flavor.
CanaSpirit Organic Cachaça was born out of the organic production
concept and also from the call for social responsibility. And more,
it was born out of the conviction that Brazilian-produced organic
cachaça should be appreciated and savored throughout the world.
Essentially pure, CanaSpirit Organic Cachaça follows the strictest
production standards, respecting our global community, and
contributing to cleaner environment.
The Natural Evolution of Cachaça
CanaSpirit Organic Cachaça is a distilled spirit, brewed by
artisan distillers on Santa Rosa farm, located in the town of
Quintana, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
The production process is fully organic. It starts in the
sugar cane plantation, with a variety of hearty cane seeds,
with no artificial substances or fertilizers added. The result is
prime-quality cachaça, unique and absolutely pure.
A typical Brazilian spirit, although CanaSpirit Organic Cachaça
can be savored by itself, it has also shown its versatility in the
most diverse and creative drinks and cocktails, including the
Fruto do Sol is a family company that trades in handmade organic and fair-trade
food products, including tomato sauce, guava paste, and tropical fruit jams.
Our process
The fresh, organic fruits we use are carefully selected. Our process is totally
free of additives and preservatives. Because it is handmade and natural, our
process interferes very little in the quality and energetic content of in natura
fruits. This results in jams that retain the color, flavor, and bouquet of the fruit
itself, and in delicately seasoned tomato sauces that allow you to enjoy the
full flavor of the tomato fruit.
Our Honey
Located in the city of Bebedouro, in the state
of São Paulo (Brazil), since its beginning in May
1985, Apidouro takes pride in its history of quality
maintenance and growth in the honey products
market.
Apidouro’s honey stands out in domestic and
international markets because of its aroma, flavor,
and attractive color, and for not containing food
forbidden antibiotics and pesticides. These unrivaled features are achievable thanks
to rigid control and continuous product quality maintenance.
Quality starts with the selection of honey supplied by
associated beekeepers that have appropriate production
facilities, added to high hygiene levels imposed by strict
regulation, which benefits the apiary.
The implantation of ISO 22000 is another feature that helps
to establish Apidouro as an outstanding honey exporting
business is its steady production all through the year.
Due to its tropical country location, Apidouro can produce honey from different
floral origin all year round, and sustainable honey collection through conscious use
of resources is an asset to the business.
Lack of seasonal variation and product
abundance greatly help to balance
investments and constantly maintain
quality standards.
Depending on foraging, the production
may include wild, eucalyptus, orange,
quince, grape ivy, and a great variety of
others honey.
ABPO
All-Natural Organic Beef
The Brazilian Association for Organic Beef Production (ABPO) was created in October
2001 by cattle raisers from the Pantanal area, in central Brazil. These ranchers see
organic beef cattle husbandry in their natural grasslands as a promising activity,
financially viable, and environmentally and socially sound.
Organic production is an alternative that can, indeed, add value to beef production
in the Pantanal grasslands and improve revenues, with low environmental and
social impact. This system assures that local pristine environments and their unique
biodiversity will be maintained. It also aids in the conservation of the original
“Pantanal” culture, making it possible for local dwellers and their families to remain
in their place of origin.
ABPO currently assembles 20 ranchers from the Pantanal area of Mato Grosso do
Sul State, in central Brazil. All together, these ranches cover an area of 110 thousand
hectares with a cattle herd of 35 thousand heads and, through extensive natural
grazing systems, are exclusively dedicated to sustainable organic beef production.
