208 Seed Files<br />

208.1 General<br />

January 18, 2013<br />

MicroStation uses a “seed file” to create all design files. A seed file is a template in which standard<br />

parameters are set. Seed files do not typically contain elements, but like other design files they do<br />

contain settings like working units and view configurations. Using a standard, customized seed file helps<br />

maintain uniformity and keeps the user from having to adjust design file settings each time a file is<br />

created.<br />

The following two-dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) seed files are available on the ODOT<br />

<strong>CADD</strong> <strong>Standards</strong> website:<br />

3D ODOTSeed3d.dgn<br />

The MicroStation configuration variable MS_DESIGNSEED is used to define the default seed file.<br />

208.2 Models<br />

ODOT’s seed files each contain two models as listed in the table below.<br />
