Schneider’s Insect medium was developed to support the growth of excised imaginal disks
from the fruitfly, Drosophila melanogaster. When supplemented with 5-20% heat-inactivated
fetal bovine serum, Schneider’s medium has been found to support the rapid growth
of both primary and established cultures of cells derived from Drosophila spp. and several
other dipterans.
